The last mile is where enterprise AI stalls
Today, most enterprises have run AI pilots. Far fewer have put agentic AI into production for the work that matters most. General-purpose models perform well in a demo, where the data is clean and curated and the workflows are well defined. Production is different. The data is messy, the rules often live in people’s heads, and every decision has to meet the risk tolerance of a regulated business. The tools are no longer the hard part. Frontier models are available everywhere, along with agent frameworks and cloud services. The bigger challenge today is operationalizing AI. That means connecting it to real enterprise data, building it into business processes, governing it, and getting consistent results every day.
Why does that happen?
That gap between a promising pilot and a trusted production system is the last mile. First came the models, each more capable than the last. Then came agentic platforms from hyperscalers and software vendors, which made agents something an enterprise could build and run. Yet agents still aren’t doing an enterprise’s real work at scale. Most enterprise AI today works in one of two modes. With chatbots, employees ask AI to answer a question or draft content, then take over the output. Copilots and assistants go a step further, working alongside employees with memory and context. The bigger opportunity is a third mode, where agents drive an enterprise process end to end and human experts provide judgment, direction, and decisions at key points. To get there, agents need industry knowledge and terminology. They need the enterprise’s own knowledge, skills, and rules. And they need those rules enforced consistently on every execution, at scale. AIVista exists to close that gap. Unpacking the AIVista Platform
The AIVista Platform is an AI-native Service-as-Software platform that closes the last mile, so agents can run enterprise workflows at scale. It brings together specialized agents, models, guardrails, a knowledge base, and a runtime in one system. We build these capabilities on top of an industry cloud substrate. That substrate is the foundation every enterprise AI system needs: hyperscaler cloud infrastructure, plus the data integration, ingestion, and storage that connect to a customer’s existing industry systems. NTT DATA provides much of this foundation. AIVista adds the specialized intelligence that sits on top of it.
Each part has a clear job. Specialized agents carry out multistep work, such as reviewing a claim or checking a policy. Specialized models give those agents domain expertise. Domain expertise goes beyond industry knowledge. It also covers kinds of work that cut across industries. For example, our intelligent document processing agent can read handwritten forms in any industry. The knowledge base grounds every decision in the customer’s own data and business rules. Guardrails keep each action within policy. The runtime runs it all securely in production.
Because these pieces are designed together, customers do not have to stitch together separate tools from multiple vendors. The platform is built for enterprises in regulated industries, where accuracy, auditability, and control matter as much as speed.
We build this way ourselves, too. Our engineering team builds our own software with AI agents, guided by specs and checked by automated guardrails. Read more in our posts on intent-based software development and the AI-native software development lifecycle.

AIVista is a wholly owned subsidiary of NTT DATA, headquartered in Palo Alto. We pair frontier AI research with NTT DATA’s deep experience in industries such as insurance and financial services.
How AIVista is different
AIVista accelerates the last mile through four differentiators that work together.
- Specialized Models and Agents. We tune models and agents for a specific industry, workflow, and customer. They understand the domain instead of guessing at it.
- Specialized Guardrails. Guardrails encode each customer’s policies, regulations, and risk thresholds. Agents act within the rules the business already follows.
- AI-Ready Knowledge Base. We turn enterprise data and business rules into two connected maps: a data map and a rules map. This neurosymbolic approach combines the flexibility of neural models with the precision of explicit logic. In plain terms, the AI can learn patterns from data and still follow strict rules, so every answer can be traced and explained.
- Enterprise Runtime. The runtime deploys, monitors, governs, and scales agents in the customer’s environment. Governance is central to the runtime, covering accountability, trust, and cost controls, with more to come. Teams move from pilot to production without rebuilding the stack.
Here’s an example of how this works in the real world. Say a broker sends in a commercial property submission on a Friday afternoon. It includes a scanned application with handwritten notes, a loss history, and an email thread. An intake agent tuned for commercial underwriting reads the handwriting and the broker’s shorthand, so it knows “TIV” means total insured value and “frame” means wood construction, with no guessing. That’s specialized models and agents at work. The underwriting agent then checks the extracted data against the data map and the carrier’s guidelines in the rules map. One written rule says wood-frame buildings in a wildfire zone need a protection class review, so the agent flags the match by applying the rule, not by inferring it. That’s the AI-ready knowledge base. Because the file is flagged and the coverage amount exceeds the limit the customer set for automated decisions, specialized guardrails stop the agent from binding the policy. Instead, they route the file to a senior underwriter with the agent’s recommendation and reasoning attached. Throughout, the enterprise runtime operates inside the customer’s environment, logging every step for audit, tracking cost per submission, and scaling when forty more submissions arrive Monday morning. The underwriter spends Monday on the one hard judgment call, not on forty rounds of data entry.
What we offer
We deliver outcomes, not just tools. We call this Service-as-Software: customers get specialized AI that does the work, backed by the teams who built it.
- Industry solutions built on the platform, starting with NTT DATA AI for Insurance.
- Specialized agents for high-value workflows, tuned to each customer’s data and rules.
- Governance built in, with guardrails and traceable reasoning that support audit and compliance in regulated industries.
- A path to scale through NTT DATA’s global delivery reach and industry teams.
From pilot to production
Enterprises do not need another general-purpose model. They need AI that knows their business, follows their rules, and runs reliably at scale. That is what the AIVista Platform delivers.
